The SMCPAAA was founded in 1997 and became a non-profit 501(c)3 organization in 1998.
The organization is made up of volunteers who support and provide services to the police department and the community. Members volunteer their time to sort brass to raise funds; make warrant calls; participate in role-playing for police training; wrap gifts for the Blue Santa Program; decorate the station at Christmas; greet station visitors and help them with accident and incident reports; work at community events like National Night Out, Strap Stars, and Coffee with a Cop; help with investigative research; escort contractors around the station; and manage the fingerprinting services on Thursdays.
Membership in the SMCPAAA is available to those who have graduated from the San Marcos Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy, or former officers with five or more years with the department, and whose dues are paid in full. 2020 membership dues are $20 for the year.
The SMCPAAA volunteers its time to support our local SMPD. Members have volunteered sorting brass, making warrant calls, participating in role-playing for police training, wrapping gifts for the Blue Santa Program and we raise funds to support our Police Officers!
The Mission of the SMCPAAA shall be to promote and enhance the relationship between the community and the San Marcos Police Department through the advocating of continued law enforcement education by the Association, supporting and promoting special projects that strengthen services provided by the San Marcos Police Department, and assisting the San Marcos Police Department in special projects when requested by that organization. The SMCPAAA shall utilize any funds generated through its fundraising efforts to support its mission as a non-profit organization.
The San Marcos Police Department has found that education has been effective in gaining understanding and support from the community.
